Circuit function and advantage
The high-side current monitor may experience an overvoltage condition after a transient or when connecting, disconnecting, or shutting down the supervisory circuit. The circuit shown in Figure 1 uses an ADA4096-2 op amp with overvoltage protection as a differential amplifier to monitor the high-side current. The ADA4096-2 features input overvoltage protection for inverting or latching for voltages above 32 V and below the supply rail.
