According to foreign media reports, Silicon Valley startup ATIeva is expected to release an electric car that competes with the Tesla Model S in early December. The design drawing obtained from the foreign media judged that the car is like the Tesla Model S, and the initial installation factory is the assembly plant of Luoyang Ocean Motor. ATIeva's first car was named Atvus.
ATIeva will be equipped with fully independent front and rear motors and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers in 3 seconds. At the same time, the car is very likely to eliminate the Tesla Autopilot with auxiliary automatic driving function.
ATIeva is just 10 miles from the Tesla plant in Silicon Valley. Atieva plans to produce 20,000 electric cars a year at the US plant, eventually mentioning an annual production of 130,000.
The company was founded in 2007. In 2014, BAIC and LeTV invested US$100 million in it, occupying nearly half of the company's shares. At the beginning, Atieva mainly manufactured components for electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles, and soon the company changed its direction and tried to become a car manufacturer. The deal with BAIC has provided Atieva with financial support to help the company achieve its goals.
According to the company's former executives, the car research and development progressed smoothly, but then Jia Yueting invested in the future of the American electric car startup Faraday and then announced the creation of the luxury electric car LeSEE plan.
And BAIC hopes to get Atieva's battery and engine technology, and hopes to shift the company's focus to the domestic market. In November 2015, Atieva co-founder was excused from the CEO position. According to former company executives, BAIC sold shares in the company in early 2016. Some sources said that LeTV Jia Yueting bought the shares held by BAIC.
Atieva is currently managed by a former Tesla technologist and has no official CEO.
Atieva executives said in an interview with the media that the new Atieva model will be officially launched in the US in 2018 and then pushed into the Chinese market. Before 2021, the company will also launch two luxury crossovers.
Atieva has not produced a complete car yet, and there is no complete assembly plant. Whether Atieva's goal can be achieved is still a big question mark.
If Atvus goes public in 2018, its opponents must not be just Tesla ModelS. LeTV will officially release the details of the LeSEE luxury electric car next week. Faraday is also expected to launch its first vehicle within two years.
The relationship between Atieva, Faraday's future and LeTV is still unspeakable. If Jia Yueting really wants to build a car empire, then Atieva's technical patents are undoubtedly worthless. LeTV and Faraday's vehicles in the future will certainly share some core technologies, especially in the combination of auto network and autopilot technology.
Atieva's annual production target is 130,000. Faraday hopes to play its annual production capacity of 140,000 units in the Nevada plant, while LeTV's $2 billion plant plans to produce 400,000 vehicles a year. Together, it surpassed the goal of Tesla's 500,000 production of Model 3 in 2018. Jia Yueting’s production plan can be said to be ambitious.
Whether Atieva is the future of LeTV or Faraday's comrades in the competition or the competition, Tesla and Atieva's competitors are certain, in December, let us wait and see.
