Tyco Electronics (TE) introduced the LS-type solderless LED socket. The socket was specifically designed for Philips Lumens LED products and debuted at the "Strategies In Light 2011" LED Lighting and Technology Exhibition Seminar in Santa Clara, California. This new product has solder-free terminals and complements Philips' latest lighting-grade LED products.
The LS-type socket is UL-1977 compliant. This design utilizes insulation replacement technology to allow 24 AWG wires to be quickly and easily connected to the terminals of the socket. The integrated stainless steel spring inside the socket ensures that the orthogonal force acting on the LED is uniform and sufficient for optimum thermal performance.
In addition, the product simplifies the positioning of the LEDs on the heatsink by using a positioner (a plastic frame that is placed first on the heat sink to properly position the LEDs before installing the socket). Once positioned, only three commercially available #4 or M3 screws are required to quickly secure the socket to the heat sink.
This design maximizes light efficiency in lensless applications, and the LS-type socket ensures that 98% of the light emitted by the LED is unimpeded. Whether or not an optional optical snap-on feature is available, this product can be used to mount a second optical device, providing flexibility for luminaire designers. For optical flexibility, LEDIL OY is equipped with Venla series of reflectors at all angles of the beam, and also provides a simple snap-on for the socket.
