Key technical problems of new energy vehicles to be solved

Recently, the 7th Automotive Electronics Forum 2009, co-sponsored by China Electronic Equipment Corporation, Shanghai Automotive Engineering Society and China Electronic Audio Industry Association, was held in Shanghai. The theme of this forum is "New Energy - The Road to the Rise of Chinese Automobiles". Experts from universities and representatives of famous automotive electronics companies gave speeches on this, showing the research and development level of international new energy automotive electronics and the research progress in China. In addition, the speakers gave suggestions on the development of new energy vehicle products for independent brand vehicles and parts companies, and pointed out the problems that need attention.

New energy automotive chips must have high reliability

Compared with traditional vehicles, new energy vehicles not only need more chips, but also put forward higher requirements for chip quality. In addition to the harsh environment of high temperature, high-intensity mechanical vibration, the chips used in new energy vehicles must have high reliability. For chip companies, this is a severe test and a rare opportunity. Liu Luwei, director of automotive electronics at Infineon Technologies (China) Co., Ltd. said: "The reliability of the chip has an important impact on the development of new energy vehicles. Consumers cannot accept that the whole vehicle is paralyzed because of the failure of small chips, and the whole vehicle enterprise cannot accept it. Because the failure of small chips affects the brand's reputation, new energy vehicles must use high-quality chips."

There are two types of chips for automotive applications: one is a relatively inexpensive industrial chip, and the other is a relatively expensive chip developed specifically for automobiles. There is a certain gap between the reliability of these two chips.

Liu Luwei said that in general, chip products have to undergo a number of tests, although the test items of industrial chips and car chips are basically the same, but the number of tests is quite different. For example, in thermal shock testing, each industrial chip only needs to pass 50 tests, and each automotive chip has to undergo 1000 tests, which is 20 times that of industrial chips. In the thermal cycle test, each industrial chip has to undergo 5,000 tests, and the automotive chip has to undergo 10,000 tests. Therefore, the reliability of automotive chips is generally higher than that of industrial chips.

"In order to pursue high reliability, enterprises producing medium and high-end cars currently purchase automotive chips, and some companies that produce low-grade cars still purchase industrial chips." Liu Luwei said: "In order to ensure the reliable operation of new energy vehicles, we hope to build a complete brand of vehicles. Enterprises buy automotive chips."

To break the battery management system is difficult

In order to better promote the development of new energy vehicles, the state clearly stated in the "Automotive Industry Adjustment and Revitalization Plan" that it is necessary to master the optimal design techniques of new energy vehicle angle engines and power modules (motors, batteries and battery management systems, etc.) Scale production process and cost control technology. Since then, "three powers" have become the focus of research and development of new energy vehicles.

Many people believe that in the "three powers, the battery is the biggest obstacle to the development of new energy vehicles. However, Wei Xuezhe, director of the vehicle power research room of the New Energy Automobile Engineering Center of Tongji University, believes that although the performance of China's batteries is different from that of foreign countries, there is no People imagine that it is so bad. China's battery industry has already applied the basis of new energy vehicles, especially in hybrid vehicles.

"The main difficulty in developing new energy vehicles in China is the battery management system." Wei Xuezhe said that the battery management system is mainly responsible for the evaluation, management and protection of batteries. On the one hand, the battery management system can monitor the operating parameters of the battery in real time to ensure the safe operation of the battery to avoid accidents such as fire, explosion, etc. due to overcharging, discharging or overheating of the battery. On the other hand, the battery management system can make each battery in the best working condition by monitoring the battery operating parameters and estimating the battery status, avoiding the failure of a certain battery life, and the whole battery pack cannot work.

After the forum, our reporter conducted an exclusive interview with Wei Xuezhe. Wei Xuezhe said: "The slow development of the domestic battery management system is mainly due to the lack of support from the whole vehicle company. The development of the battery management system not only requires the vehicle manufacturers to provide the rack test, but also needs them to help complete the long-term on-board test of the battery management system. With the cooperation of vehicle companies, the battery management system cannot mature."

Dedicated engine management system is still "short board"

There are many types of new energy vehicles, including hybrid vehicles, pure electric vehicles, and fuel cell electric vehicles. Dr. He Hai, head of engine management system development at United Automotive Electronics Co., Ltd., said that from a global perspective, hybrid vehicles are at the forefront of industrialization. As one of the key technologies of hybrid vehicles, the engine management system has received extensive attention, and it is still the "short board" for domestic related companies to develop hybrid vehicles.

According to reports, the functions of start-stop, safety monitoring and on-board diagnosis of hybrid hijacking cars put forward higher requirements for the engine management system, and it is necessary to readjust the fuel system, intake system and exhaust system. He Hai explained: "For the hybrid engine management system, in the fuel system, it is necessary to reset the fuel injection amount and other parameters. In the intake system, it is necessary to reset the intake air amount and increase the idle throttle control. In terms of the exhaust system, the detection side of the exhaust gas temperature is mainly strengthened."

The reporter learned that United Electronics has conducted tests on the Civic 1.7 L hybrid car. The results show that the engine can be optimized by the engine management system. Under urban conditions, the car can save 14% of fuel. Fuel saving 8%.

He Hai appealed: "Optimizing the engine control system has a great effect on the fuel economy. It is hoped that all vehicle companies will adopt a dedicated engine management system when developing hybrid vehicles."
