US market research firm IDC released a personal computer market survey report on Wednesday. The report said that in the third quarter, PC sales in the third quarter increased by 11%, lower than market expectations.
The IDC report pointed out that from July to September this year, the global PC shipments were 89.7 million units, an increase of 11%, while the US market sales growth was 3.8%.
IDC analyst Jay Chou pointed out in the report: "Despite the slow market growth at the beginning of the third quarter, the market began to become active in September."
Hewlett-Packard, the world’s largest computer maker, performed weakly this quarter. Shipments in the third quarter were unchanged from the same period of last year, and its market share dropped by 2% to 17.6%.
The shipments of the second-largest computer maker Acer and the third-largest manufacturer Dell increased, but their performance was weaker than the overall market growth. Acer's three-quarter market share fell to 13%, while Dell fell to 12.4%.
Chinese computer makers Lenovo and Asustek have seen significant growth, with growth rates exceeding 30%, while Toshiba has grown by approximately 15%.
Apple has not entered the top six computer manufacturers in the world, but Apple Computer's performance in the global market is very eye-catching. Apple's personal computer division grew by about 24% in the US market in the third quarter and rose to the third place in the market.
