LEDinside's latest "2014 China Packaging Industry Market Report" by Global Energy Research Institute's Green Energy Division shows that in 2013 China's LED packaging market was 7.2 billion US dollars, with an annual growth rate of 20%. The top five cities in China had the highest market share in 2013. The manufacturers are Nichia, Yiguang, Cree, Mulinsen and Philips, which together account for about 1/3 of the overall market.
Since 2010, under the dual factors of rapid expansion of upstream industry capacity and continuous expansion of downstream application market, Chinese local LED packaging manufacturers have ushered in a period of rapid development. Mulinsen successfully ranked among the top five in the Chinese packaging market and became the leading manufacturer of packaging in China. In 2010-2013, the LED device revenue growth rate was 53%, which is the fastest growing manufacturer. Other major manufacturers Ruifeng Optoelectronics, Jufei Optoelectronics, and Changfang Lighting have a compound annual growth rate of more than 30%. The huge demand for downstream applications provides a fast-growing foundation for Chinese local packaging manufacturers, which is expected to maintain a high-speed development trend in the next few years.
In 2013, China's LED packaging market was US$7.2 billion, with an annual growth rate of 20%. As China is a major producer of LED applications, with the rapid increase in LED lighting penetration, the demand for LED devices is growing, and China has become a global player. LED packaging manufacturers compete for the main market; in 2013, international packaging manufacturers' total revenue in the Chinese market was 2 billion US dollars, taking advantage of patents and benefiting from the rise of the lighting market, with an annual growth rate of 40%.
From the perspective of individual manufacturers, Nichia's annual revenue growth exceeded 70%, China's revenue share increased to 29%; Seoul's semiconductor revenue increased by 80%, China's revenue share increased to 19%; International companies such as Sharp, Philips, and Osram have also shown eye-catching performance in China. On the other hand, Taiwanese manufacturers, except for Everlight and Hongqi, have seen their other companies' revenues in China decline. LED analyst Yu Bin said that the rapid rise of Chinese packaging manufacturers has first threatened Taiwanese manufacturers, but Manufacturers have not had much impact in the short term.
