MAX2605 / MAX2606 / MAX2608 / MAX2609 VCO phase noise measurement

Abstract: Maxim's IF voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) phase noise test performance. The phase noise of the VCO rolls off between 10kHz and 1MHz at 20dB / decade. All measurements are made on the Maxim evaluation board. Where VCC = + 2.75V, TA = + 25 ° C, VTUNE = 1.4V.

The MAX2605-MAX2609 are compact, high-performance intermediate-frequency (IF) voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) designed specifically for demanding handheld wireless communication systems. These monolithic VCOs are packaged in a miniature 6-lead SOT23, which has the advantages of low noise and low power consumption. The low-noise VCO has an on-chip integrated varactor diode and feedback capacitor, eliminating the need for external tuning components, which makes the MAX2605-MAX2609 particularly suitable for handheld system applications.

This application note describes using the Maxim evaluation board to test the phase noise performance of these devices. VCC = + 2.75V, TA = + 25 ° C, VTUNE = 1.4V.

Note that the phase noise in each figure follows the expected roll-off characteristic of 20dB / octave. This application note does not test the MAX2607, and does not provide a diagram of its phase noise characteristics. But the phase noise of the MAX2607 follows the same roll-off characteristics exhibited by all VCOs in this series.

The Solder Cups D-sub connector, also known as Solder Cups D-sub connector , typically contains a pin layout of 9 pin, 15 pin, 25 pin, 37 pin & 50 pin positions housed in increasing shell sizes accordingly. They are available in both male (plug) and female (socket) variants with the male signal contacts/pins (current rating of 5A) spaced every 2.76mm in horizontal rows and the spacing of rows vertically at 2.84mm laid out half the distance between pins of existing rows.
