Munich, Germany – March 9, 2015 – Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY) Expanded its portfolio of control ICs for 40W to 300W lighting systems with the introduction of the ICL5101. The new high-voltage resonant control IC, the ICL5101, is highly integrated, helping to reduce system cost. Typical applications include indoor and outdoor LED lighting, high/low shed lighting, street lighting, parking and ceiling lighting, office lighting, retail and store lighting. The total cost of ownership of the lighting system is an important consideration for industrial lighting, and the new ICL5101 supports a resonant topology efficiency of 95%, which is highly appreciated by customers.
The highly integrated ICL5101 enables high-end design of LED drivers, reducing the required components by approximately 25% compared to similar solutions that require separate PFC ICs and resonant ICs. This makes the design more reliable, which reduces shape size, simplifies PCB layout and reduces cost. The ICL5101 integrates half-bridge and PFC gate drivers. All operating parameters of the IC can be adjusted with simple resistors to reduce cost and ensure reliability and stability of parameter settings. The chip has a junction temperature range of -40°C to +125°C and is suitable for outdoor use.
The LED controller ICL5101 is designed to control resonant topologies such as LLC. The integrated digital PFC unit operates in both critical conduction mode (CrCM) and discontinuous conduction mode (DCM), allowing extremely stable regulation even under low load conditions due to dimming of the unit. LED illumination brightness can be adjusted over a wide range of 100% to 0.1% of its rated load. The range of the latest dimming technology available on the market is generally only 100% to 5%. In addition, the ICL5101 can be lit in very short time (less than 200 ms) under any conditions.
The ICL5101 adjustable PFC unit delivers high-quality power with a THD of less than 10% and a power factor of over 0.99 over a wide input voltage range, enabling lighting manufacturers to meet energy efficiency standards. In addition, the ICL5101 ensures extremely stable output when the input voltage changes. A series of protection functions such as external over-temperature protection and capacitive load protection ensure timely detection of fault conditions and safety of the system.
The introduction of the ICL5101 by Infineon once again demonstrates its technological leadership in the field of high efficiency LED driver solutions. Recently, the ILD6150 step-down driver IC was nominated for the "Integrated Circuits and Electronic Components" product group of the 2015 LED Magazine Sapphire Awards. Supply
The new ICL5101 resonant controller IC is available in a compact PG-DSO-16 package. In addition, the ICL5101 evaluation board is also available. The EV kit has a large input voltage range of 85VAC to 305VAC and provides a regulated output voltage of 54VDC. The new product supports 110W of output power and can be easily configured with only resistor settings.
