In ordinary amplitude modulation, the carrier component is an equal amplitude fixed frequency sine wave. It does not contain the information of the modulated signal, but it occupies most of the power, so this transmission method is uneconomical. The so-called double-sideband modulation is to suppress the carrier and transmit only two sideband signals.
