According to foreign media reports, Japanese chip maker Renesas Electronics (Renesas Electronics) said on Tuesday that the company will decide whether to sell the loss-making mobile chip business in fiscal 2013.
Last year, Renesas Technology accepted a government-led $ 1.8 billion for assistance. The mobile chip business unit is part of Renesas Mobile, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Renesas Technology.
In 2010, Renesas Technology acquired Nokia ’s mobile chip business, saying that the mobile chip business has been losing money since the acquisition.
Renesas Technology said in a statement that it will continue to focus on the chip business for automotive and industrial equipment.
Renesas Technology in February lowered its fiscal year results from an operating profit of 21 billion yen to an operating loss of 26 billion yen.
