Taiwan's three major mobile phone brands are in cold weather, and none of them achieve sales targets

On the evening of December 26th, Beijing time, industry news from Taiwan said that Taiwan's three leading smartphone manufacturers ASUS, HTC and Acer were unable to complete their 2016 sales targets.

According to these industry sources, ASUS’s smartphone shipments this year are expected to be 20 million units, which is below the sales target of 25 million units. This was mainly due to lower-than-expected handset sales in mainland China, the US and Europe, and delayed shipments of ZenFone 3 also affected sales.

According to industry insiders, ASUS currently faces serious challenges from mainland brands in the smartphone market. In the Indian market, Asus will face a fierce price war next year. Therefore, it is not easy for Asus to further boost mobile phone sales in the international market.

The same is true for HTC. The company shipped 18 million mobile phones last year and has handed over the title of the largest smartphone maker in Taiwan to Asus. This year, HTC's smartphone shipments are expected to be between 10 million and 12 million. According to industry sources, HTC’s mobile phone sales in the Mainland, the United States and Europe have declined rapidly.

These industry sources said that HTC's share in many markets around the world is declining. Especially in the Mainland, market share has shrunk dramatically. Therefore, it is very difficult to restore the past style in 2017.

As for Acer, industry insiders expect that this year's smartphone shipments will be less than 5 million units, less than half of the 10 million sales targets. These industry sources said that Acer's mobile phone business will continue to be challenging in 2017. (Li Ming)
