The electrochemical process of a fuel cell generates a large amount of thermal energy, and the thermal management system of the evaporative cooling unit removes this thermal energy by vaporization of the injected water. This design eliminates the humidifier and separate stack cooling loops necessary for conventional fuel cells, reducing the system complexity of the auxiliary equipment and reducing the size and weight of the fuel cell stack.
The evaporatively cooled fuel cell stack uses a stable bipolar metal sheet structure, an innovative flow energy management system, and intelligent control system software, which ultimately results in a fuel cell system with less auxiliary components, compact and high energy density. IntelligentEnergy has partnered with Suzuki Motor Co., which together announced the world's first approved fuel cell electric motorcycle with a 4 kW fuel cell system.
