4K has come 8K is not far from the battle of resolution China is the winner?

1080p has long been popular and the 4K era has just begun. While major manufacturers and content providers are actively building 4K ecosystems, the recent Shenzhen Consumer Electronics and Consumer Electronics Show (CE China) seems to indicate that the next 8K era will be led by the Chinese market.

At the conference, a spokesperson for a domestic manufacturer said: “We are developing 8K technology. According to the market reaction, it may start selling at the end of 2016.” He added that the company already has an 8K TV prototype in Shenzhen, and More than one.

In fact, the preparation of 8K technology has begun. At the recent IFA GPC 2016 Forum, delegates were told that 14 million households will have 8K TVs by 2019, and by 2020 this number will soar to 21 million. In fact, Japan’s NHK plans to use 8K to broadcast the Olympics.

Interestingly, Paul Gray, principal analyst of IHS, believes that as the purchasing power of consumers in the Chinese market is rapidly increasing, most of the early sales of 8K TVs will fall on Chinese consumers. "China has the largest number of early consumers in the world," he said.

For flagship TVs, the most common screen size at the moment is 65 inches. By the 8K era, 65 inches may not be enough. China’s consumer groups are large and their demand for large-screen TVs is equally large. Experts said that if the 40-inch is the entry standard for 4K TVs, then by the 8K era it would have to be 80 inches. This point is also an attractive factor for Chinese consumers.

In addition to consumer buying trends, China’s TV manufacturers also showed strong interest in 8K. Hisense recently released its first 8K TV and said it would be available within the month. The above-mentioned manufacturer who claims to be developing 8K technology also revealed that he is producing LCD panels for Panasonic and other companies. The spokesman said that there are too many competitors in the country and the price war is fierce. It is necessary to expand overseas markets and upgrade technology.

IHS has full confidence in China's "war of resolution" and believes that by the end of 2017 China will catch up with South Korea. According to their publicly available data, the input of Chinese manufacturers on the panel is "surprising". There are currently 11 active panel factories and there will be more than 10 surges in the future. Quantitative changes will trigger qualitative changes in the LCD panel business.

It seems premature to talk about 8K now, but IHS pointed out that by 2020, 4K TV installed capacity in the world will reach 300 million units, and there will be more frequent “pixel wars” next. In any case, 8K technology should not be underestimated, because it has already appeared. "There are already a lot of 8K content being shot now. Even if they won't be implemented on 8K TV, we should realize that 8K broadcast is better than 4K broadcast." Paul Gray said, "We expect that 8K will be made by China in the future. Market driven."
