Mbed Cloud's IoT device management capabilities have been extended to support Mbed Edge's IoT gateway for device access, control and management. Mbed Edge has three important functions: (1) support for non-IP network protocols; (2) edge computing; and (3) gateway management.
Protocol conversion - bridge between traditional protocols and IP network protocols
As more and more industries use the Internet of Things to enhance their products and services, they need to connect to many deployed non-IP network protocol endpoints. For example, we saw ZigBee lighting in smart buildings, BACnet control air conditioning systems, and endpoints for constant temperature control with Modbus. Mbed Edge's protocol conversion capabilities will help devices that do not support IP network protocols communicate over IP networks. In this way, these devices can be accessed, controlled and managed through Mbed Cloud.
Edge calculation
There are two major benefits to getting an IoT gateway to local computing resources. First, it allows the gateway to drive simple applications without receiving instructions from the cloud. For example, a simple rule that monitors the pressure level on a production line. If the air pressure reaches a certain threshold, it can cut off the entire production line. This rule should be in operation regardless of whether the cloud is available. Second, in many cases, the raw data stream, if it is functioning properly, does not have to go through the cloud, but can be processed at the edge, especially when connected to the cloud over a metered network such as a cellular network. Mbed Edge enables seamless synchronization and deploys applications created on Mbed Cloud to designated Mbed Edge devices.
Gateway management
Many times, gateways play a vital role in the day-to-day operations of the Internet of Things, such as ensuring that plant lines or wind turbines operate smoothly. However, the problem still occurs, sometimes the critical sensor is offline, and sometimes the connection to the initiator is intermittently disconnected. In many cases, these issues must be fixed immediately to avoid more serious consequences. The key capabilities of Mbed Edge help to alert, diagnose, and correct problems in certain situations. • Continuous gateway configuration backup so that it can be restored or restored to its original configuration in the event of a software error
• All forms of the backup gateway, restore the gateway to the initial state in the event of a hardware failure
