Sina Weibo's market value surpasses Twitter, the most valuable company in the micro-blog field

All along, people’s impressions of Sina’s Weibo are “Chinese version of Twitter” (at least as many overseas people think). With the development of Weibo, market value has soared. Today, as the “new generation” of Sina Wei Bo's market value has exceeded the "old" Twitter. Currently, the market value of Sina Weibo is 11.35 billion US dollars, while that of Twitter is 11.34 billion US dollars.

Sina Weibo was officially launched in 2009. It was four years later than Twitter. When Weibo was just on the line, Twitter was in full swing. However, it seems that some high walls boosted Weibo, allowing Chinese users to have a Twitter-like experience. Platform, microblogging began to rise rapidly. At the IPO in early 2014, Weibo’s market value had reached US$3.4 billion. Since then, the Weibo market has grown even more violently. The market value of Twitter IPO was 26.8 billion U.S. dollars, which is almost 8 times higher than Weibo. Now it has fallen by more than half.

According to related financial reports, Twitter’s revenue for the second quarter of 2016 was US$602 million, which was more than four times that of Sina Weibo. Moreover, more than 40% of these revenues came from outside the United States, indicating that Twitter still has strong multinational revenue-generating capabilities. . However, from the perspective of growth rate, Twitter is 20%, Weibo is 36%, and Twitter is still worse than its juniors. In terms of active users, Twitter’s appeal to users has been declining. In the past 12 months, Twitter’s more active users have decreased by 5 million, while new users of Sina Weibo have increased exponentially. Microblogging monthly active users is only about 70 million, and now it has increased to nearly 290 million, and the globalized Twitter is just over 20 million more than Weibo.

As the originator of microblogging, Twitter can no longer stop the downward trend. It can only look for “receivers”. The news of helplessly seeking sales hangs for a long time and no one wants to take over, and Sina Weibo has blossomed due to various businesses. At present, both development and capital are smooth, I believe that according to the current development speed of Weibo, it is only a matter of time before we can surpass Twitter.
