Tesla and Matsushita to build factories to accelerate the creation of solar panels

According to foreign media reports, yesterday, the United States well-known electric car manufacturer Tesla announced that it is discussing with Matsushita Electric Co., Ltd. in the United States to build photovoltaic cell parts production plant related issues.

According to an agreement reached by both parties, the two companies will jointly establish a new SolarCity photovoltaic cell component production plant in Buffalo, New York. Mass production of photovoltaic cell power generation components and modules will be launched in 2017. The scale of production has not yet been disclosed, but it is understood that the investment amount is expected to be around 10 billion yen.

Earlier, Tesla had worked with Panasonic to produce batteries at a super plant in Nevada, but the two companies have not yet directly cooperated in the production of solar panels. Through this cooperation, the two hope to accelerate production at the best cost. Highly efficient, highly reliable solar cells and modules.

However, so far, this cooperation agreement is only a non-binding agreement, whether the factory can finally be implemented, but also depends on whether Tesla can eventually acquire SolarCity.

In August of this year, Tesla announced that it would purchase SolarCity, a solar power company, for US$2.6 billion worth of shares. However, it was hindered by Tesla shareholders afterwards. Shareholders stated that the acquisition agreement of Elon Musk was not based on Tesla’s. In the long run, Musk and other SolarCity shareholders want to maximize their benefits. For Musk, buying SolarCity is equivalent to saving his own investment.

The current agreement is still in the stalemate, Tesla will be held on November 17 this year, a shareholder vote to decide whether to purchase SolarCity.
