Hyundai Motor Group: Introducing wearable robots in automotive production lines

There are more and more signs of replacing humans with robots. The Hyundai Motor Group announced that it will introduce wearable robots in the car production line in the late 2018, which is the first time that South Korea has such equipment in the automotive industry. line.

BusinessKorea reported on the 24th that, in general, workers can save 30-40% after putting on such equipment, and Hyundai-Kia AutomoTIve Group will gradually promote wearable robots at the factory. I am working with Hyundai Rotem on research and development, and I plan to sell industrial robots in the future.

According to Hyundai's statistics, if workers work from morning to afternoon, the efficiency will drop to 69%, but with wearable robots, the efficiency can still be maintained at 95%. In the beginning, the company will launch robots that support the back and knees of workers. It will be launched at the end of this year and commercialized in one to two years.

Although wearable robots can increase efficiency and reduce work injuries, in the long run, it is a means for factories to reduce manpower and increase production capacity.

Chung Eui-sun, vice chairman of Hyundai Motors, claims that people may think that factory automation will reduce job opportunities, but it turns out that automation will create jobs in new technology areas such as software and programming. However, Chung's statement made the market more convinced that the company would let the robots settle in the factory sooner or later.

Hyundai Motors compromised salary increases every year due to employee strikes, but as revenues fell, its labor costs accounted for more than 15% of revenue, the first time in history. Reducing personnel costs has become a top priority for Hyundai Motor.

According to estimates by the research firm Korea CXO InsTItute on January 22, the proportion of labor costs to revenues of Hyundai Motor in 2015 decreased slightly from 14.6% in 2014 to 14.3%, but it rebounded again after one year. Strikes, ignoring the company's profit decline, mandatory salary increases, is the main reason for the high cost of labor.

In 2017, Hyundai Motor was in a sales dilemma in China and the US market. At the same time, the union asked to raise the basic monthly salary of employees by 58,000 won (equivalent to 54 US dollars). It also went on strike for 5 days and strived for 200,000 employees per year. The Korean won (about 187 US dollars) gift certificate resulted in a loss of 400 billion won (about 374.6 million US dollars) in modern car revenue. Some market participants believe that the personnel cost of Hyundai Motor will account for 16% of revenues sooner or later.
