October 16 — Ukrainian military officials recently showcased a cutting-edge adaptive war robot capable of switching between different operational modes and even changing the weapons it carries. The ground unit can be equipped with tank-like tracks or six-wheel configurations, making it highly versatile for various terrains. It can also carry anti-tank weapons, grenade launchers, or machine guns, offering a wide range of combat capabilities.
The robot was unveiled at the American Military Exhibition Association in Washington on Monday. According to Ukrainian defense sources, the Phantom — often referred to as the Ghost — could be deployed on the battlefield as early as next year. With a range of 20 kilometers and a top speed of 38 km/h, this multi-functional robot is designed for remote operation. It features night vision technology and can engage targets up to 1 kilometer away.
Operators can control the robot via remote radio channels or through a 5-kilometer fiber optic cable, ensuring reliable communication in different environments. The inventor highlighted that the robot is not only suitable for combat missions but can also transport supplies and assist in rescuing injured soldiers from the front lines.

Roman Romanov, head of UkrOboronProm, emphasized that the Phantom is a driverless, multi-purpose tactical vehicle designed to address modern warfare challenges. Its ability to perform dangerous tasks previously reserved for human soldiers aligns perfectly with the evolving needs of contemporary military operations.
According to participating officials, the new ground robot is intended for use against Russian-backed forces. While Russia has developed its own ground robots, it has not yet demonstrated a clear commitment to deploying them in active conflict. Meanwhile, the United States has been actively testing armed ground robots in recent years.
This spring, U.S. researchers conducted tests involving around 50 robots at a naval base in California. Navy officials stated that using advanced drones and armed robots on the front lines helps protect soldier lives. In addition to ground robots, the U.S. Navy is also experimenting with high-speed boats that can transform into submarines, enhancing their strategic flexibility and stealth capabilities.
