Linear Technology Introduces Synchronous DC/DC Controller with High-Frequency Control On-Time

Photocoupler

Linear Technology Corporation introduced the LTC3833, a high-frequency synchronous DC/DC controller featuring an adjustable on-time and clock synchronization. This device uses a valley current mode architecture to deliver a very fast transient response by increasing the operating frequency during load changes. As a result, the LTC3833 can quickly recover from large load steps in just a few cycles, making it ideal for applications requiring rapid voltage regulation.

The LTC3833 operates over a wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 38V, making it suitable for various intermediate bus voltage applications. It includes powerful built-in N-channel MOSFET gate drivers that enable the use of high-power external MOSFETs, supporting output currents up to 25A with output voltages ranging from 0.6V to 5.5V. This makes it well-suited for point-of-load (POL) power supply designs where efficiency and performance are critical.

The differential amplifier in the LTC3833 allows for accurate remote sensing of both positive and negative output terminals, ensuring precise voltage regulation without the influence of PCB trace resistance, vias, or interconnect losses—up to ±500mV. Its ultra-short 20ns minimum on-time enables high step-down ratio power supplies to operate at high frequencies, improving system efficiency and reducing component size.

The operating frequency of the LTC3833 can be set between 200kHz and 2MHz, or it can be synchronized to an external clock signal. For current monitoring, the device offers two options: either using the DCR (Direct Current Resistance) of the output inductor for high efficiency, or employing a sense resistor for more precise current measurement. Additional features include an internal bias LDO, soft start and tracking capabilities, and an adjustable current limit, providing flexibility for a wide range of power supply configurations.

Octagonal Pole

Octagonal telephone pole is a telephone pole with eight sides, giving it a unique octagonal shape. These steel poles are often used to support power lines, street lights, and other electrical infrastructure. The octagon provides additional strength and stability compared to traditional round poles, making it ideal for areas with strong winds or other environmental challenges. Depending on the specific requirements of the installation, they are usually made of materials such as wood, steel or concrete.
