In 2010, the global LED packaging equipment industry was dominated by around 130 manufacturers, with 100 of them being domestic companies, making up approximately 76% of the total. Over the years, significant progress has been made in localizing key components. By now, dispensing equipment is fully localized, and the use of splitting tapes has exceeded 90%. While wire bonding machines still require breakthroughs for domestic enterprises, solid crystal machine equipment has achieved over 90% localization. The supply chain from ASM to Mulinsen has been replaced, and Xinyichang holds a dominant position in both domestic and international markets, with a market share of about 80%, as noted by Vice President Yuan Manbao at the 2017 High-Tech LED Annual Meeting.
From December 21st to 22nd, 2017, the 2017 High-Tech LED Annual Meeting and Golden Globe Awards Ceremony, hosted by Gaogong LED, took place in Shenzhen’s Baoan Dunxi Road. With the theme “Deepening the Smoke and Softening the Strength, Deep Integration, and Tapping New Opportunities,†the event brought together over 400 industry leaders to discuss the future of the LED sector. Attendees explored trends in the industry landscape, market dynamics, capital flow, and technological advancements, while seeking new strategies amid the evolving industrial environment.
A special session titled “LED Packaging Equipment and Materials: Changes and Innovations†was held, featuring a keynote speech by Yuan Manbao on “Intelligent Packaging Trends.†He emphasized that the factors influencing the profitability of LED packaging factories include management strategy, raw material cost control, labor expenses, product yield, and equipment utilization efficiency.
As a result, the shift toward intelligent manufacturing has become inevitable. Xinyichang has focused heavily on automation, significantly improving productivity. For example, where one operator used to manage just one device, now a single person can oversee ten devices. Additionally, each device operates twice as fast as its predecessors, effectively doubling the output per worker. This advancement allows one operator to manage the equivalent of 20 previous units, drastically boosting production efficiency.
Xinyichang has also established strong partnerships with several domestic packaging manufacturers, including Guoxing Optoelectronics, Hongli Zhihui, Ruifeng Optoelectronics, Jufei Optoelectronics, Xiamen Xinda, Jingtai Optoelectronics, and Smect. According to Yuan Manbao, the company has already begun integrating MES systems into some of its high-end equipment, laying the groundwork for future unmanned chemical plants.
In summary, the transition from traditional to smart manufacturing is driving the packaging production line toward greater intelligence. Technological innovation remains the core driver of this transformation. Currently, the packaging capabilities meet market demands, but products are becoming more complex and personalized. As a result, equipment is growing more sophisticated, and digital information systems are increasingly embedded within products and machinery, requiring higher performance to satisfy evolving market needs.
