DER-350 can help all types of thyristor dimming achieve excellent dimming performance
San Jose, California, August 27, 2013- Power IntegraTIons (NASDAQ: POWI), a world leader in the field of high-efficiency and high-reliability LED driver ICs, today launched a dimmable PAR38 The spotlight reference design, which was developed in collaboration with the well-known LED lighting company Cree, Inc. (NASDAQ: CREE). The design example report for this new reference design is DER-350, which is designed using the new device LYT4317E in Power IntegraTIons' LYTSwitchTM-4 series of single-stage driver ICs and Cree's MT-G2 EasyWhite® LED.
DER-350 introduces an isolated, high power factor, thyristor dimmable LED driver, which can provide 550 mA for an LED string with a rated voltage of 36 V within an input voltage range of 90 VAC to 132 VAC drive. LYTSwitchTM-4 IC uses a single-stage isolated topology with a combination of PFC and constant current (CC) to provide excellent efficiency, enabling a power factor greater than 0.98 and using fewer components. It also integrates overvoltage protection, overcurrent protection and overheating protection.
DER-350 also exhibits the excellent thyristor dimming performance of LYTSwitchTM-4 IC-very fast start-up speed (less than 200 ms), reducing the sudden brightening phenomenon and the absence of dimming dead zone, thus easily meeting NEMA ’s Dimming curve requirements (whether leading edge dimmers or trailing edge dimmers are used).
