Chinese company's acquisition of Osram lighting business approved by Germany and the United States

Electronic enthusiasts eight o'clock: Germany Osram (OSRAM) spokesperson said on the 11th that the US Foreign Investment Committee (CFIUS) has approved Osram to sell its lighting business to Chinese consortium. Since the German Ministry of Economic Affairs has given a green light in January this year, the acquisition is currently only completed with the final approval of the Chinese regulatory authorities. Headquartered in Munich, Germany, OSRAM is a well-known company with a history of more than 110 years. Its products range from civil lighting equipment to high-tech lighting equipment such as infrared and laser. It is widely used in virtual reality, autonomous driving, smart phones and buildings, and smart cities. Wait. Http://static.cnbetacdn.com/article/2017/0213/70d9c5807a24c3d.jpg

The OSW intends to sell Ledvance, a separate subsidiary and a main household lighting fixture. Since the completion of the splitting of Landvewan from OSRAM in mid-2016, a number of Chinese companies have expressed their willingness to acquire. On July 26 of the same year, the OSRAM Supervisory Board decided to sell Roundmans to a Chinese consortium consisting of Mulinsen, IDG Capital and Yiwu State-owned Assets Operation Center.

Osram sold the lighting business to the Chinese company and merged with the US. The famous German robot manufacturer KUKA and the Chinese company purchased the German semiconductor company Ai Siqiang. The merger and acquisition triggered media attention in 2016.

Among them, the US merger and acquisition KUKA was once considered to be "grounded" after being opposed by the German economic minister. However, this acquisition ultimately passed the German review in August 2016.

In October of the same year, the German Ministry of Economic Affairs unexpectedly withdrew the license for Chinese companies to acquire Ai Siqiang and restarted the review. In December, the then US President Barack Obama ordered the prohibition of Aisiqiang from selling its US operations to Chinese companies. Fujian Hongxin Investment Fund finally gave up the acquisition of Ai Siqiang.

When the German Ministry of Economic Affairs announced the re-examination of the Ai Siqiang merger and acquisition case, it said that it will further investigate the acquisition plan of the Chinese company for OSRAM.

However, on January 30 this year, the OSRAM spokesperson confirmed that the German Ministry of Economic Affairs has approved Osram to sell Roundmans to Chinese companies.

On the 11th of this month, the OSRAM spokesperson told the German Business Daily that the US Foreign Investment Committee (CFIUS) has also released the acquisition. According to the analysis, it is only theoretically approved by the Chinese regulatory authorities that the Chinese consortium can complete the acquisition of the OSRAM lighting business as scheduled in FY2017.

OSRAM has a global market and technology leadership position in the automotive lighting sector. Germany's "Spiegel" online pointed out that the sale of its Roundmans will enable OSRAM to divest its lighting business for end customers with 2 billion euros in sales and 125,000 employees. In the future, OSRAM is expected to bid farewell to traditional light bulbs, halogen lamps and other products, and instead focus on LED technology and lucrative automotive lighting.
