The world's leading electronic components company Molex Expands EdgeLine? Product portfolio, adding new high-speed edge card connector products. These low-side, high-profile, single-piece products feature high-speed differential contact design for data rates up to 25 Gbps for excellent signal integrity. These products are the newest members of the EdgeLine family, providing cost-effective, flexible, and adjustable solutions for low to medium range communications, computing and storage applications. Molex will showcase high-speed edge card connectors and other EdgeLine products at DesignCon 2014 in Santa Clara, Calif., from January 29th to 30th, 2014.
Adam Stanczak, product development manager at Molex, said: "As systems become more complex, customers not only need higher data rates and superior signal transmission clarity, but they also need to achieve higher levels of connectivity in a limited board space. The latest EdgeLine connectors meet the industry's need for a single-piece, reliable, high-speed connectivity solution while continuing to deliver ultimate design flexibility and compact density with minimal PCB footprint."
These connectors can accommodate PCB thicknesses from 1.57 to 3.18 mm for complex product designs. They come in a variety of circuit sizes, providing greater signal and power distribution design flexibility in one solution. The new connector features low side height for enhanced airflow and thermal management. The CoPlanar measurement is 6.40mm on the PCB and the CoEdge measurement is 3.50mm above and below the PCB. Other features include:
? Uses a press-fit, pin-compatible terminal design for easy board termination with flat-head tools and SMT patches for higher speed capability
• Cost-effective slotted terminals for different signal and power requirements
• Shared or single ground provides flexibility for power, low speed, single-ended signals, and high speed differential circuits
? The center key of some circuit sizes is centered at the socket edge in the socket interface, improving PCB alignment during patching
The 0.80mm pitch CoEdge connector features keying and locking for reliable assembly to the PCB and improved board alignment during patching. The secondary locking option helps prevent accidental unplugging and prevents the PCB from coming off the connector.
