Samsung claims breakthrough in LED technology

According to foreign media reports, Samsung Electronics announced on Monday that company researchers have made breakthroughs in LED (light emitting diode) technology and now have been able to use common glass such as window glass to produce super-sized advanced display panels. The Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology has successfully used amorphous glass substrates to produce single crystal gallium nitride (GaN). This is an important milestone because with this technology, Samsung will Glass substrates can be used to produce oversized LEDs.

A Samsung researcher who participated in the research project said: "The size of display screens made with window glass will double within 10 years, and future buildings will be more personal."

The LED industry is currently using artificial stone substrates, but glass substrates can be used to produce oversized displays and can also reduce production costs.

Although GaN LEDs on the market are currently up to 2 inches in size, GaN LEDs produced using new technologies will be 400 times larger than existing products.

LEDs are widely used in the backlighting of various consumer electronics products such as televisions. Samsung said that GaN LEDs will be used in large-scale lighting and advanced displays in the next few years.

It will take another 10 years for this technology to be used in industrial production.

Samsung said the results of this research have been published in the online version of Nature Photonics, a monthly academic magazine published by the Nature Publishing Group.
