Chinese New Year lighting "body" where to classify and recycle

**Chinese New Year Lanterns: Where to Classify and Recycle** Published on March 6, 2018 | Source: Nanchong Daily News After the Lantern Festival, traditional Chinese New Year decorations such as red knots, lanterns, and festive lights gradually disappeared from the streets of Nanchong. These symbols of celebration and good fortune were carefully removed by operators, marking the end of the festive season. According to local authorities, starting from March 2, city officials began removing the lighting from main roads and key areas. The decorations will be sorted, stored, and recycled for future use in upcoming festivals. On the evening of March 4, reporters observed the removal process on Beihu Road in Shunqing District. With the assistance of city management officers and traffic police, workers in reflective vests climbed ladders to carefully take down lanterns and lights from street poles and trees. They placed them near the road barriers before loading them onto trucks for transport. During the process, some citizens were seen taking photos of the lanterns. One local resident, surnamed Wang, expressed his disappointment: “These lanterns are really beautiful, and they created a strong sense of the New Year. But it’s a pity that they’ll just be thrown away after being removed. It feels like a waste.” So where do these decorative items go? According to the Shunqing District Cultural Tourism Bureau, the city held a special meeting to ensure proper classification and preservation of the lighting. Urban management teams, traffic police, and lighting companies worked together to dismantle, handle, and store the decorations. Items were carefully cataloged, packaged, and stored in warehouses with fire prevention and security measures in place. “All the lighting components, including main pole fixtures, LED nets, string lights, and more, were recovered without disrupting traffic or compromising safety,” said an official. “The lighting will be reused next year. Lighting companies will manage the recycling process according to contracts, and costs will be deducted from project funds.” The entire operation involved over 40 construction vehicles and more than 400 workers, working across multiple sites. By the morning of March 5, all the New Year lights had been fully removed. This efficient and organized effort showcased the city's commitment to sustainability and resourcefulness.
