ARkit Adds Supporters, Sketchfab Opens World's Largest AR Resource Bank

When it comes to learning, the library has always played a very important role. In this database you can find a series of books, papers, journals and even software help. With the launch of Apple ARKit and Google ARCore, learning how to develop an augmented reality experience has become a hot spot for current professionals and new entrants. For this reason, Sketchfab hopes to bring a substantial learning database to AR audiences.

Sketchfab announced today that the Sketchfab application has updated support for ARKit, which means that AR application developers will be able to access nearly 2 million models. Quote Sketchfab's words, they are now "the world's largest AR resource library."

Aliban Denoyel, co-founder and executive director of Sketchfab explained: “Mobile AR allows you to navigate 3D content in a more natural and intuitive way than a 2D screen. You can move any object or scene in 6 degrees of freedom. , Just like in real life or in the virtual world, but there is no limit to the above two. This is really a brand new medium. AR also provides a good way to get the sense of scale of virtual objects, This is difficult to achieve without the extra context provided by mixed reality."

Sketchfab's VR model browser was initially launched in July 2014 and completed a $7 million financing in less than one year. Although there is no mention of ARCore's support, it is only a matter of time because Sketchfab brought both 3D VR models to Android and iOS in early July of this year and integrated sound support in roughly the same amount of time.
