“Power consumption reduced by 41%” IDEC new buildings all use LED lighting

The new building "IDEC SALES OFFICE", which uses LEDs for lighting fixtures, was released to the media on March 12. In addition to indoor lighting in the office, corridors, conference rooms, exhibition rooms and toilets, LEDs are also used for lighting and outdoor lights in parking lots. Previously, there have been precedents for the use of LEDs for indoor lighting. "The construction of all LED lighting is still the first in the world" (the company's representative director and president, Tochigi Junki). The new building has a floor area of approximately 2,378 m2. According to the construction of Kashima, which is responsible for the design and construction, the total annual electricity consumption can be reduced by about 41% compared with the original lighting fixtures such as fluorescent lamps and incandescent lamps.
Although the power consumption can be reduced, the initial cost of LED lighting is as high as 35 million yen, which is twice or more when using original lighting such as fluorescent lamps and incandescent lamps (about 13 to 15 million yen). However, since the electricity cost can be saved by reducing the power consumption, in addition, it is calculated that it is used for 13 hours per day and 240 days per year, and it does not need to be replaced in about 16 years. Therefore, in the 14th year, the cumulative cost will be lower than that of using fluorescent lamps. Among the initial costs of LED lighting, the cost of white LEDs accounts for the majority. IDEC expects that in the future, if the high-power white LEDs that can be used for lighting are mass-produced, the cumulative cost will be much shorter than that of fluorescent lamps. According to the company's data, if the initial cost is reduced to about 1.3 times that of fluorescent lamps, the cumulative cost will be lower than the use of fluorescent lamps in about 4 years.
A total of about 11,000 white LEDs were used in the entire building.
The LED used in this lighting is the white LED "IDEC Sunshine" manufactured by IDEC Opto Device. It is also the most advanced product in the white LED called SA grade. The specification of the white LED is 285 lm when the input is 3.3 W, and the luminous efficiency is 86.4 lm/W (the color temperature is 6000 K, which is used continuously). A total of approximately 11,000 white LEDs were used throughout the building.
IDEC Optics believes that the era of white LEDs for general lighting is coming, and IDEC Sunshine was released three years ago. Although the supply is increasing, the white LED market for lighting has not grown as originally expected. IDEC pointed out that one of the reasons is that there are too few examples of LED lighting, and it is not enough to verify the LED lighting effect. Therefore, the company plans to personally verify the effect of LED lighting through this new building. At the same time, we have accumulated experience in the use of LEDs for lighting, and “use it as a factory for practical technology” (Technology, Director of Technology Strategy, IDEC, Executive Director, Technology Center, IDC Group CTO Fujita Junhiro).
Alternate use of 6000K and 3300K models The LED illuminators are available in a variety of models. For example, in the office, conference rooms and corridors, the use of "ロ" type lighting. A total of 20 white LEDs with a color temperature of 6000K and a warm white LED of 3300K were used alternately. In this way, "the light that is equivalent to about 4500K white, which is good for the human eye" is obtained (IDEC Optical Components represents the director of the board of directors Ota). This LED lighting fixture consumes 66W, has a full beam of 4,300 lm, and has an overall efficiency (combined efficiency) of 65 lm/W including the power supply section. This lighting was produced and configured with 293 units. In the bedroom, the brightness around you is around 700lx.
The IDEC Sunshine used in this package integrates 27 small blue LED chips in one package, which is combined with a phosphor material to obtain white light. The blue LED chip was purchased from Toyota Synthetic and then packaged by IDEC optical components. As a new generation of products, the company will supply 55 LED chips in a single chip in the summer of 2008. When inputting about 11W, a beam of 920lm (for continuous use) can be obtained, and when inputting 2W, the luminous efficiency is 118lm/W (the bonding temperature is about +40 to 50°C for continuous use).
