Wi-Fi chip manufacturer GainSpan announced a gs2000 IC, a chip solution based on Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11b / g / n standard) and ZigBee (IEEE 802.15.4) technology.
According to GainSpan, the chip will help stimulate the popularization and application of home network equipment, and is also suitable for commercial asset tracking applications, such as monitoring the location of miners in coal mines, as well as measuring air quality (the content of a certain gas).
The chip can also be used to track the patient's location and measure heart rate and other health indicators, or to track the location of a container, only it moves within the Wi-Fi hotspot range, and even can measure the temperature and humidity in the container.
The integrated system-on-chip (SoC) supports PHY / MAC functions of 802.11b / g / n and 802.15.4, dual ARM Cortex-M3 processors, multiple network protocol stacks, and a large memory to support various application configurations Documents, all functions are completed in this single silicon chip.
GS2000 supports Wi-Fi LAN (WLAN), ZigBee IP (based on 6LoWPAN) and 802.11 and 802.15.4 wireless standards based on IP addressing methods.
According to the company, the benefits of combining two wireless IP-based technologies not only have the advantages of Wi Fi's wide distribution, but also the ZigBee IP's small channelization and meshing performance.
For example, in residential applications, this solution will serve as a communication bridge between ZigBee and Wi-Fi smart devices.
Therefore, the chip will be mainly useful for home appliance and equipment manufacturers, so that they do not need to carry out special design.
Instead, they can directly use this SoC to develop and design devices that support both ZigBee IP and Wi-Fi.
The company said that the chip has already been used by customers (customer name is confidential), and customers include personal medical equipment, electrical appliance manufacturers, video and video security equipment manufacturers.
The module samples for the chip will be released to the market later, and the company added that it plans to add RFID functionality to it.
