Omron Demonstrates Full Built-in Face Recognition Sensor Module OMRON's "OKAO Compo", a small facial recognition sensor module, was presented at "CEATEC JAPAN 2011" held at the Messe International Exhibition Center in Makuhari, Chiba Prefecture. The camera is integrated with the facial recognition module (MCU and software), so the product can be easily developed using facial recognition devices. The intended use is "control of the operation of air conditioners through facial recognition", "digital signage or vending machines provide suitable digital content or products for people standing in front of them," and "only allow certain people to operate industrial equipment."

According to Omron's introduction, the types of information output by the module are OKAO switch (face or not), OKAO smile (smile degree in percentage), OKAO eye data (line of sight and eyes closed), OKAO level (age and gender) and OKAO code (in contrast to registered people). Taking into account personal privacy issues, the camera's image will not be output. It is scheduled to have a 300,000 pixel camera. According to the company, this number of pixels can fully meet the requirements of facial recognition.

Omron has begun to provide a face recognition module that can connect four cameras at a price of tens of thousands of yen. The company is currently developing such modules for users without cameras to achieve simpler facial recognition. According to the company, it is estimated that the price will be several thousand yen, but the price will decrease when mass production.
