When using a calorimeter to measure the heat of coal:
(1) Since the temperature values (relative temperature values) measured by different temperature probes are not identical, their linearity may vary. Therefore, when replacing the temperature probe, it's necessary to recalibrate the calorimeter's heat capacity to ensure accurate results.
(2) During heat capacity calibration and calorific value measurement, if the room temperature changes by more than 5°C, the heat capacity should be recalibrated. Although platinum resistance is linear within a certain temperature range, it doesn't require averaging for correction if it operates within the specified range. Failing to do so could introduce significant errors. If there's no way to correct the average index of the temperature probe, the calorimeter’s heat capacity can be recalibrated to match the actual temperature conditions during measurement, thereby reducing thermometer measurement errors.
(3) When using coal standard substances or standard benzoic acid to check the accuracy of the calorimeter, if the measured value deviates from the standard value beyond the uncertainty range, or if the difference between the measured value and the standard heating value of benzoic acid exceeds 50 J/g, the calorimeter's heat capacity must be recalibrated—provided no other explanation for the discrepancy is found.
These steps are essential for maintaining precision in calorimetric measurements and ensuring that the data obtained is reliable and consistent over time. Regular maintenance and recalibration help prevent systematic errors and improve the overall performance of the calorimeter in various testing environments.
By following these procedures, users can achieve greater confidence in their experimental results and ensure that the calorimeter remains an accurate and dependable tool in thermal analysis applications.
